About FrontPage Themes

FrontPage Themes can be applied to Web pages or Web sites created with FrontPage or with SharePoint Team Services. Themes give sites consistent fonts, formatting, bullets, and other design elements across all of the pages on which they are used. When we created the custom sites, we created a custom Theme for each site that you can use to apply to your own site. Keep in mind that Themes change the fonts and formatting of what you already have in the site; they don’t create new pages or new content on your pages.

About FrontPage Web Site Templates

FrontPage Web site templates can be used to create an entire Web site from scratch. We have turned the custom sites into Web site templates so you can use them to create a basic site, and then fully customize the site with FrontPage. The site comes complete with a home page, links, and pages ready for you to add your own content into.

Getting Started - Installation

The zip file contains an installer (.exe) that will install the Theme and Template files. Run the installer by double-clicking on it and following the prompts.

Make a New Web using the Web Template

  1. Open FrontPage 2002.
  2. Go to File > New > Page or Web. Click Web Site Templates in the New Page or Web pane in the right column.
  3. Choose the FrontPage Sales Web Template.
  4. Specify the location in the dropdown box. For example, you may want to point the location to a subfolder in your My Webs folder: C:\...\My Webs\FPSales or to a public server on the Internet like http://www.mywebs.com/newweb.
  5. Click OK. FrontPage will build the web site for you. When it's done working, you may view and edit pages.

Some FrontPage Template basics...

Top Header Include Page

The top header area is an "include page," created using the FrontPage Included Content Web Component. The Included Content Web Component allows you to create content once and then place it wherever you want in other pages. Included Content is easy to update even if it appears on many pages in your Web site. In our case, we named the header page "include_top.htm." So to edit the headers on the sub-pages in the site, just open "include_top.htm" and make edits there. You can insert your own company logo in place of the "Contoso" company logo in this manner.

About the Top Horizontal Navigation Bar

The top horizontal navigation bar is based on your navigation structure. It displays the "Child Pages Under Home" pages. You can change the properties of the top horizontal navigation bar by opening the include page, "include_top.htm."

If you want to add links to the bar, you will have to go into Navigation View to see your navigation structure. Drag pages so that they connected directly underneath the home page. You may delete or move pages from this link bar by dragging them to a different level, or right-clicking on the page and choosing Delete.

About the Quick Launch Navigation Bar

The quick launch navigation bar on the home page is simply a list of text links. You may add or delete links from the home page. Type Shift-Enter to insert line breaks between links.

About Page Titles and Link Bar Button/Link Titles

Page titles and link bar button/link titles are automatically generated by FrontPage based on the title of your page. To change the title of your page, switch to Navigation View, right-click on the page you wish to change, and choose "Rename." Type in your new name and click OK. This will change the page title and link bar titles across your web. (Note that this will change link bar titles, but not necessarily hyperlinks that you have created yourself.)

Adding more pages

You can add more pages simply by saving an existing page. Open a page and go to File > Save As. Choose a file name for your new page - it should not have spaces or special characters in it - and click the "Change" button to change the Page Title (this is what displays on navigation bars). Then, go into Navigation View and drag the page into your navigation structure to get link bars to show up.

Changing the copyright statement

The copyright statement is also within an "include page." Open "include_bottom.htm" to edit the copyright statement on your pages.
