SynkSharing is a custom network protocol introduced in Synk 7 to address several limitations of traditional file sharing users of previous versions of Synk have run into over the years.
Benefits of SynkSharing include:
For instance, it’s not been possible before to make a bootable backup across a file sharing connection. It’s possible now over SynkSharing.
Traditional file sharing doesn’t support the “hooks” into the system to be notified about file system changes that were the basis of Synk 6’s ZeroScan feature and are fundamental to Synk 7’s live operation. SynkSharing makes this information available so Synk can work faster and better.
Having a special-purpose networking protocol allows it to better fit Synk’s exact needs. There are also some clever tricks we can play now that weren’t possible over traditional file sharing. Most of these are not in the 7.0 release of Synk, but you can expect to see them appear in the future.
